The Buyer is responsible for purchasing complex materials and subcontracting services for projects primarily originating from the South and Midlands offices following established tender standards, availability requirements, and price constraints.

This position reports directly to the Regional Supply Chain Manager. The candidate will be geographically based, though the candidate should be located in the South or Midlands of England.

Role and Responsibilities

*Purchases complex materials and subcontracting services for projects originating from the South and Midlands offices following established tender standards, availability requirements, and price constraints
*Obtains quotations and negotiates with suppliers on price, service and assists to ensure technical inclusion on purchased materials and installation contracts
*Develops/negotiates SCM agreements (subcontracting & services)
*Manages interpersonal relationships with supplier staff and contributes to the measurement and reporting of performance
*Develops key vendor relationships, with focus on agreements with core sub-contractor base
*Manages and builds strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure engagement
*Collects, analyses and recommends solutions to quality problems on purchased materials
*Plans and prioritises activities, suggests and implements process improvements aimed at improving customer service levels
*Advises management of improvements on materials and equipment, price changes, marketing changes and source changes
*Achieve cost savings in line with departmental targets
*Liaise with suppliers for special equipment configurations as needed
*Assist with calculation and negotiation of supplier and customer rebates
*In addition to the above mentioned tasks, other activities and responsibilities may be individually defined.

*Excellent analytical skills, results-driven and accurate, with proven ability to demonstrate this
*Good initiative and interpersonal communication skills both orally and in writing
*Good influencing and negotiation skills
*Wins with customers. Builds trusting relationships to enhance cooperation and collaboration.

Experience & background
*Bachelor's degree or equivalent through experience
*CIPS qualified or studying towards
*Experience in an equivalent professional purchasing position (eg experience in subcontracting, materials, SG&A spend, etc)
*Experience within the building controls industry preferable, with knowledge of Service and BMS installation projects
*Good knowledge of purchasing practices and applicable laws and regulations, with good commercial acumen.
